Sled Hockey
Sled hockey, also known as sledge hockey, is a fast and exciting version of ice hockey primarily played by individuals with lower limb mobility impairments. This inclusive sport welcomes people of all physical abilities. The game is similar to “stand-up” ice hockey, with the main difference being that players use a sled with two skate blades mounted under a seat. Players use two sticks, one with a conventional hockey stick blade at one end and stainless steel “picks” at the other end, which players use to dug into the ice to allow the players to generate power to move about the ice surface. In competitive play, hard checking, raised-puck shooting, and penalty killing are just as much a part of sled hockey as in “stand-up” hockey.
