Carter Barbieri — Determined, Dependable, and Driven
For Carter Barbieri, senior defenseman for the Central Penn Panthers 18U team, hockey has been a constant in his life for the past 12 years. Through every season, game, and practice, Carter has built his reputation on consistency, intelligence, and effort — qualities that have earned him recognition as a DVHL Student-Athlete of the Month.
As a defenseman, Carter embraces responsibility on the ice. “The energy in the locker room before a game is always high no matter what team we are playing,” he shared. That pre-game atmosphere fuels his competitive edge and reinforces the strong team culture that defines the Panthers. For Carter, being part of a team is about more than just the final score — it’s about shared intensity, preparation, and trust.
Off the ice, Carter is a senior at Hershey High School, where he excels academically. His favorite subject is math, drawn to its analytical nature and problem-solving challenges — a mindset that mirrors his methodical approach to defense. Balancing school and hockey takes discipline, something Carter has developed over time. “I’ve developed my time management skills to allow me to be extremely efficient with the little free time I have,” he explained.
Hockey has directly influenced his classroom success. “Teamwork allows me to quickly finish my tasks by asking others if I get stuck,” he said. “And determination helps me complete assignments in a timely manner.” The same focus and accountability he brings to the rink translate seamlessly to his academic performance.
Being named Student-Athlete of the Month is an honor Carter deeply appreciates. “It’s an honor to be recognized for my hard work both on the ice and in the classroom,” he said. He credits his parents as his greatest inspiration. “They push me to be my best even in tough situations.”
This season, Carter has learned an important lesson about support and perspective. “You can’t do it all yourself,” he shared. “I’ve learned to lean on my family, coaches, and teammates.” When adversity strikes — whether it’s a tough loss or a difficult exam — Carter keeps his motivation steady by focusing on effort over outcome. “I focus on the hard work I put in,” he said. “That’s what keeps me going.”
Looking ahead, Carter’s goals are clear. Academically, he plans to pursue a degree in engineering, continuing to challenge himself in a field that rewards analytical thinking and persistence.
Among his favorite hockey memories is playing in the Youth on Ice game at the Wells Fargo Center during a Flyers game — an unforgettable experience that combined high-level competition with the thrill of a professional arena atmosphere.
When asked to describe himself as a player and teammate, Carter chose three words: Determined. Dependable. Methodical. Those traits define his steady presence on the blue line and his disciplined approach in the classroom.
Carter Barbieri embodies what it means to be a DVHL Student-Athlete of the Month — a leader who values effort, teamwork, and growth, and who understands that success is built on preparation, perseverance, and the people who support you along the way.
