Connor Martin — Resilient, Composed, and Leading from the Crease

Connor Martin - Central Penn Panthers – DVHL Student of the MonthFor Connor Martin, one of the backbones of the Central Penn Panthers 18U team, success is built on consistency, mental toughness, and a deep appreciation for the people around him. A senior goalie with 10 years of hockey experience, Connor has learned what it means to stay steady under pressure—both on the ice and in the classroom.

Connor values the relationships that come with being part of a team just as much as the competition itself. “I enjoy spending time both on and off the ice with teammates, as well as competing and winning games,” he said. That balance of camaraderie and competitiveness defines his approach to hockey.

Off the ice, Connor is a Grade 12 student at Carlisle High School, where he has challenged himself academically while maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout all of high school. His favorite class is AP Calculus, and balancing a demanding academic schedule with hockey hasn’t always been easy. “I stay up late studying and completing homework, and sometimes even bring schoolwork to practice to get it done on the way,” he shared. Despite the grind, Connor credits hockey with helping him manage his time more effectively and providing a mental reset. “It helps clear my mind. While it does add some stress, it’s helped me become more productive.”

Being named DVHL Student-Athlete of the Month is especially meaningful to Connor. “It reflects that my coach recognizes the work I put into both school and hockey, which means a lot,” he said. That recognition speaks to the balance and dedication he brings to every aspect of his life.

Connor draws much of his inspiration from his father—the person who first introduced him to the game. “My dad is the one who got me into hockey, and he has helped me become who I am today,” Connor explained. Even though his father is currently working in Virginia and not coaching him this season, Connor still leans on his guidance and support.

One of the biggest lessons Connor has learned this year is resilience. “Bad stuff can happen, and you can’t always do something about it,” he said. “But you can keep trying and stay focused.” As a goalie, that mindset is critical. “You have to stay mentally steady because your teammates rely on you.”

Looking ahead, Connor’s goals are clear. He hopes to help lead the Panthers to a DVHL championship while continuing to strengthen his bonds with teammates. Academically, he plans to pursue a mechanical engineering degree, with Virginia Tech as his top choice, and would love the opportunity to play club hockey at the collegiate level.

When asked what advice he would give to younger players, Connor’s answer reflected his maturity and perspective. “Focus on enjoying the game and building good friendships along the way,” he said. “I’ve been on teams that struggled and teams that won championships. While I remember some losses and big wins, what really sticks with me are the teammates I shared those moments with. I remember the faces, not the scores.”

One of Connor’s favorite hockey memories perfectly captures that sentiment. During his freshman year playing varsity hockey with the Keystone Kraken, he entered the Viola Cup Finals at Hersheypark Arena after his team fell behind 5–0 in the first period. The comeback that followed ended with lifting the cup—an unforgettable reminder of resilience and belief.

Asked to describe himself in three words, Connor chose resilient, composed, and humble—a fitting summary of a goalie who leads with calm confidence and heart.

Connor Martin truly embodies what it means to be a DVHL Student-Athlete of the Month, setting the standard through hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to his team, his education, and the relationships that matter most.
