Jack Baran — Leading with Discipline, Teamwork, and Heart
For Jack Baran, captain and defenseman for the 18U Pennsylvania Huntsmen, hockey has been more than just a sport — it’s been a foundation for leadership, discipline, and lifelong friendships. After 13 years on the ice, Jack continues to set the tone for his team, both as a steady presence on defense and as a motivating voice in the locker room.
“Our relationships and team environment are what push me to be my best for the team,” Jack shared. “We all hold each other accountable and play for one another.” That sense of camaraderie has helped shape Jack’s approach not only to hockey but to life.
A senior at Downingtown STEM Academy, Jack has found balance between academics, school hockey, and travel hockey by maintaining a strong sense of time management and consistency. “By managing my time and staying consistent with my work, I’m able to balance school, school hockey, and travel hockey,” he said. “Hockey has definitely taught me discipline, teamwork, and an overall work ethic that I use in the classroom and every day.”
Being named the DVHL Student-Athlete of the Month is a recognition Jack doesn’t take lightly. “It’s a huge compliment,” he said. “I think a large part of the success I’ve had comes from my relationships with family, friends, teammates, and coaches. My team inspires me to push myself, just as I try to motivate others when they might be down.”
Jack shared one of the most valuable lessons he’s learned this season: focusing on what’s within his control. “It’s allowed me to prioritize the important things and feel in control,” he explained — a mindset that reflects his maturity and leadership both on and off the ice.
Looking ahead, Jack is determined to continue building on the success of the Huntsmen while preparing for his next chapter. “I plan on continuing to work to make myself and our team the best we can be,” he said. “I hope to pursue further education in college, and I would appreciate the opportunity to play in college if I am given the chance.”
Through it all, Jack never loses sight of what first drew him to the sport — the joy of the game and the bonds it creates. “One of the main goals of playing is to just have fun,” he said. “Hockey is a great outlet for me to spend time with friends and make memories. My favorite memories are the times spent with teammates at all the tournaments and showcases we travel to.”
From his steady leadership on the blue line to his focus in the classroom, Jack Baran exemplifies what it means to be a DVHL Student-Athlete of the Month — driven, disciplined, and dedicated to his team, his goals, and his love for the game.
